Placed in support group but not sure why. was created by hippyhappy
I have been on ESA for years, since it was created basically. For the first few years, they placed me in WRAG, made me go for assessments (which were horrendous) but never once did I have to do any wra. Then they stopped my payments because I was on contribution based. I didn't appeal....I was very, very unwell. However they were still playing my ni contributions and another application form arrived. I filled it in with no guidance from anyone (can't fir the life of me remember what I said in my form and I no longer have a copy.) They placed me in the support group with no medical assessment/interview and left me alone for five years.
Then when I had to reapply for PIP, they replaced me in high rate care....and I got another letter daying I was still in the ESA support group....no medical for either!
That brings me to now. I had to reapply for ESA again and on the basis of my application, I am continuing in support group...no interview!
Obviously this is all great but I am puzzled. Yes....I am unwell, or rather I get very unwell as a result of bipolar and other mental health problems. I simply wouldn't cope with WRA just now. Yet years ago, after my first application I would say I was very much more ill. I had literally left hospital two days previously but they placed me in WRAG!
I would be interested to know why they mafe this decision....but I don't want to trigger anything by calling them....I would be too afraid to anyway!
Is it normal for them to make decisions but not say how or why they did so?

Hi Hippyhappy

Although a lot of people do have to have f2f assessments for ESA, there are those that don't. There are also a small number of people who don't for PIP either. I shouldn't spend any time worrying about it. Someone has looked at your recent application for ESA and deemed that a f2f is unnecessary. The fact that someone else made a different decision in the past doesn't matter. Particularly with ESA unless you ask for a report - they do make the decisions with no explanation.
