PIp 'Going Out' query was created by Rose Hip
Hello, I'm trying to fill in my PIP form and wondering about how to fill in this question with regards to my situation. I've downloaded the guides thankyou.
I have a Motability car which has been a great help and I'm able to travel from A-B most of the time, so I can plan and follow a route, but my problem is what happens when I arrive. If I can't find a large enough parking space then I start to panic and then my plans all go to pieces. I even drive back home without doing what I came for. I no longer have the confidence to back into tighter spaces that I managed previously. This has grown into a problem following a 'road rage' or more to the point a 'parking rage' incident a few years ago, when I was taking too long to back into a space and was subjected to a torrent of abuse from a large & aggressive male 4 x 4 driver. It left me shaken and affected more than I realised.
I'm left with a situation whereby my confidence has waned along with my ability to park in a timely manner. it's alright when I know where I'm going and it's to a place where I can park without stress, but if, after trying to suss it out on Google Earth, a new destination looks too difficult, then I don't go there unless I have somebody else with me - husband usually. So poor husband often finds himself a taxi service because of this situation. My problems are physical (spinal) in the first instance leading me to need parking aids, but the above incident has led to a psychological aspect. I'm affected when I go out, but is this pertinent to this question? Any thoughts ? Thanks.

Hi Rose Hip
Going Out
The Going Out activity looks at three things.
Planning a route - this is primarily a cognitive or sensory (e.g. blindness) activity. You are being asked about the problems you would have with working out how to get from one place to another, you do not need to be able to follow the route that you are planning.
Undertaking a Journey - this is to do with mental health issues such as agoraphobia and social anxiety and is concerned with you leaving the house to go somewhere, they will be interested in the things that stop you doing this. You need to show that you would suffer "overwhelming psychological distress" to meet the criteria.
Following a route - This activity about the problems you would have navigating a route. So are there problems; cognitive, sensory or mental health issues that would prevent you from doing this? This is different from undertaking a journey, in fact, if you cannot undertake a journey then you will not score points for following one and vice versa.
