PIP2 Latest form question on Communicating

Hello
I am struggling to fill in the PIP form and am unclear about DWP guidance in the Information Booklet about Communicating. In the latter it seems to indicate that prompting or encouraging someone to speak (eg because of anxiety or other mental health conditions) may be relevant. In other info I read online it was said that the DWP idea of "help to communicate" applies only to a specialised trained person because of some physical disability, not a friend who supports and/or speaks for you at times. Which is correct please?

Also If a friend is needed only for new or particularly stressful occasions ie not every day or most of the week if your life is routine and mostly local......would it be fair to tick "sometimes" or will that be ignored even if explained? How many points does "sometimes" carry anyway??
Thanks for your help

Hi Ostia

I am not sure whether you are talking about Q9 Communicating or Q12 Mixing with other people.

The communicating activity is primarily about your physical ability to speak and hear, it does not consider problems you would have being with other people, though you can score for this through mental health.

And yes the DWP does say that help to communicate is normally a trained person, though there are instances that these can easily be refuted eg if someone is deaf they may need someone to sign, but it may be a family member.

Impossible to say how much weight sometimes carries. In order to score the highest points, it is always that something has to occur or is needed on the majority of days.

Thank you. It is Q9 I was referring to.
I have neurological issues which means I get confused and can't find words at times or ramble and I have what has been defined as "dissociative seizures".
I will write this down anyway as it gives an idea of my difficulties. I am not expecting the highest award but hope very much to keep my DLA award of lower/standard for both daily living and mobility issues.
