Please can you help with regard to small equity from selling my house. I understand I can only keep the equity for six months before it has to be used for another property. It may take longer then this for the shared ownership, finding somewhere to live that will give me a small mortgage. I can rent but six months may not be long enough and I am afraid I may finish up losing this small amount which I want to use to help me get shared ownership. The climate is slow and very difficult at the moment trying to move but I have to for health reasons. Thank you for your help. I receive higher rate PIP and ongoing ESA with SDP.
You need to contact the DWP office dealing with your ESA claim as soon as you sell your existing property, any equity should be disregarded for 26 weeks, if it looks like you will exceed this then contact them again, a DM can extend the period but you will need to show that you are actively looking for a new property and why you have not been able to purchase.
