Cruella, In the Disability Rights Handbook it says, "The experienced person could potentially include a family member or a close friend (CPIP/3603/2015)".

We are so much alike Cruela. I could have written this! It is all so complicated.

The thing is I virtually always cannot engage with people, although I want to, even if I had /have support. My son being with me helps marginally, but his presence does not remove other people's germs. Plus he is not around.
Also ,I could not let a trained social supporter anywhere near me to help me engage, because t could not engage with the social supporter!
So I am concerned that they will think that I do not need the PIP money if nobody can help me do the activity anyway, so if I cannot do the activity and still could not do it even with social support , would I score points?

Hi Cruella

It's a judgment call on the part of the assessor. If you could not engage and therefore trained help would not make a difference then you score fewer points than someone who needs help and either has it or would engage with it if the help was available.

So you don't think someone who couldn't engage at all even with social support would get the 8 points for the cannot engage with anyone due to opd.? Sorry, I'm confusing myself and prob everyone! So does the 8 point one mean you have to be having opd with the social supporter present?

Hi Cruella

You want us to give you a definitive answer and it's not possible to do that because we are not trained assessors. What I do know is that some members have been refused points because they do everything to avoid OPD for example not leaving their house and therefore although they have claimed OPD the assessor has judged they don't experience it because of the strategies they take to manage their condition. That is why I say it is a judgment call on the part of the assessor and it depends on you as an individual, what you tell the assessor, what you have written down and any evidence you offer. It would be lovely if these things were clear cut, but they're not. I'm not saying you won't score points, the point I was making is that someone who cannot engage scores less than those who accept help or show they would use help if it was available.
