I had my ESA medical today. I asked for it to be recorded and I arranged that last week. I I have had numerous assessments in the past. But I’ve not had one like todays. My last one went to tribunal before I won it. I very much get the impression today’s was conducted a different way because of the recording. It lasted over 1.5 hours! where the HCP went literally through my whole medical history which is long and complex. a lot of the conditions I didn’t even mention in my questionnaire. Interesting that there must have been at least 25 other people being assessed and no one else asked for a recording. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

JLP,

We certainly find they are a lot more willing to listen and aren't as "off" with us as HCPs have been in the past when not recording.

We've had a HCP argue with us regarding our right to record the assessment even though we had in writing that permission had been granted...as soon as the tape was on they were a totally different person and couldn't have been nicer.

We've also had final reports back that were full off inaccurate information and I'd go as far as to say out right lies despite the assessment being recorded so it still doesn't stop the ineptness of some HCPs. In our case it wasn't a major issue as the award was still granted and we were unwilling to bring up the matter and risk the award changing or another assessment being carried out. I'm not 100% sure how the assessments are carried out or if this would possible for the HCP to do this but it has been my suspicion that on this occasion, the report was filled out before hand and the inaccurate information left in by mistake or they just felt changing everything wasn't needed as they changed enough to allow the award, I can't for the life of me think of any other reasons why a HCP would put such "lies" in a report when they knew they were being recorded but who knows :-S
