Hi Ann-Marie

A lot of people prefer to have home visits as it takes some of the stress out of going to an assessment centre and it avoids all the questions about how you got there etc and avoids being somewhere unfamiliar. Although some people worry that an assessor is going to be examining their house, this is not the case and the only room they see is the one that you choose to have your assessment in. It is unusual for Captia to offer a home assessment unasked, so they must believe that it would be better for you. It's up to you, whether you choose to accept it.

I would personally bite their hand off at the offer of a home visit, we are currently fighting to be granted one.

Both myself and a another family member has a neurological condition and our experiences of assessment centres in the past have been horrendous, it's ridiculous some of the stuff they can come out with "had mud on shoes, this shows the claimant leaves the house the majority of the time....not sure how they expected us to get to the centre in the middle of winter, teleport directly into the office maybe, "was observed putting seat belt on". I'm not saying they are't just as sneaky at home visits but at least you are in a familiar place so maybe tactics like this are lessened.

We defiantly feel more comfortable and alert in a home setting, as Bis mentioned in our experience they have been very reluctant to look in other rooms, even when we have tried to direct them to aids around the home,
