Hi All.
Like a lot of us I’ve been interested in this wonderful site for quite sometime.
Today I got through the post my copy of the f2f pip assessment.
I had mine carried out by a nurse, I’m fairly shocked at the points I got and some of the reasoning??? (Again like a lot of us I dare say)
Some background - as I hope it will offer some context I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, which up until 2012 had been known only by myself and my abuser, (a teacher) when he died he left images which I was identified by, the rest is history, my subsequent breakdown lead to my current mental health episode.
I’m on antipsychotics antidepressants .. Lyrica, Valium, and sleeping pills.
My anxiety is through the roof which was acknowledged in the report but the points I scored didn’t reflect any of this.
To the point that the assessor quantified the medication I’m currently prescribed as “moderate”
Am I right in thinking I cannot ask for a reconsideration until I receive the actual decision?? I have spoken to the mental health team I’m under and my GP who are willing to provide more specific additional supporting evidence. Don’t get me wrong if I’ve scored it accurately I have maybe qualified for standard rate living allowance, which I’m very grateful for but I just don’t feel that the assessment accurately reflects my current daily support needs, bizarrely I have arthritis which seemed to take preference over my current mental health conditions. Lastly I stated that due to the nature of my history I thought I should have been offered additional support with a vulnerable person champion??
Great forum and thanks in advance for any replies

Hi Christian

You are right in thinking that you can't put in for a mandatory reconsideration before you get the decision, but you can write to the decision maker now, though you have to do this quickly.

Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say that you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said. Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors.

Have a look at the areas where you did not score as highly as you thought and see whether you have adequately described the difficulties you face as matched to the PIP criteria and where you might have to expand.

There is no guarantee that writing to the decision-maker will make any difference. If you do not want to do this you can wait for the decision and then put in for a mandatory reconsideration.

You can ask the DWP if you are marked down as a vulnerable person - it is their decision.

God morning BIS

Thanks for the reply.
I managed to get myself together long enough yesterday to call the DWP, the lady I spoke to immediately asked if I was ok due to the state I must have sounded in.
She took down everything I had help identifying as being inaccurate - and then spoke to a decision maker. According to policy I should have been offered and acknowledged as a VP, and such VVP champion should have been offered. The points that the mental health nurse and those that help care for me were added to my file.
I’m still not confidant it will have any effect on the outcome - but it was the opinion of the mental health nurse that the assessment wasn’t accurate at all in terms of my abilities due to the problems I deal with daily.
Thank you for your response :)
I guess all I can do now is wait.

King regards

Hi Christian

So glad that you were able to summon the extra strength to make that phone call. Let's hope it has a positive outcome and will stop you having to put in an MR.
