Health Assessment without being sent ESA forms.

Just got a letter for a health assessment. I am assuming it is for ESA, it doesn't actually state what it is for, just says "We have been asked by the DWP to carry out an assessment in relation to your benefit claim", but the "About your face to face assessment" pamphlet is WCA AL1C 02/15.

I have PIP until 2023 ("review" 2022) and the last time I got an ESA50 form was same time I got my PIP assessment forms in early 2017. I did the PIP assessment and got letter after that confirming my ESA rate, so I assume they used my PIP assessment to cover my ESA.

Anyway, I just wanted to ask, is it usual to be called in for an assessment without having to fill in and submit the ESA50 form first?

Thanks.

It's not normal for an assessment to be done without issuing an ESA50 but it does happen, the WCA is for ESA.

You have a couple of options;

- You can download an ESA50 and complete it

www.gov.uk/government/publications/capab...r-work-questionnaire

- You could write a letter explaining your problems, I would use the same format as the ESA50.

In either case, if there is time post a copy to Maximus, whether you do or not take a copy to the assessment and ask the assessor to read it before they start the interview and to include it in your file when they return it to the DWP.

I would also send a copy to the DWP office dealing with your claim with a covering letter explaining what the document is and why you are sending it.

Thanks for that Gordon.

Will fill in the ESA50 and submit it to the DWP and Maximus as suggested.

As advised I sent a completed ESA50 form with a cover letter explaining why I needed a home assessment to both Maximus "Health & Disability Assessment Services" and the DWP.

I had only been given 10 working days between being notified of the assessment and the date of it so was cutting it fine and not hopeful of a reply.

However, today I received a letter from Maximus stating...

"Dear *****

Re: Your request for a home visit regarding your claim for Employment Support Allowance/Universal Credit
A Healthcare Professional has reviewed the further medical evidence received, and in respect of this has now decided that it is no longer necessary that you undergo an assessment at this time.
Any current appointments have therefore been cancelled.
Your file has been returned to the Department of Work and Pensions."

Which is of course an excellent outcome and confirms the advice given, to send a completed ESA50 form even if you have not been asked to fill one prior to assessment.

As always, thank you for you advice.
