ESA and Inheritance, SDP was created by Pukdog
Hi
I am on income related ESA in support group.
My claim started over 5 years ago in WRAG contribution ESA then moved to IR ESA then to support group two years ago. I have also been getting severe disability premium.
I have received an inheritance of £7000.
I called DWP to inform them and they said they will move me to contribution ESA and no longer received severe disability premium.
I had an overdraft of £1000 which has been paid back since the inheritance was out into the account so am below the £6000 threshold.
I have to send in bank statements etc which I will do.
I don't understand why the severe disability premium has gone or why I am now on contribution based ESA as I am worried about now paying more council tax and prescriptions etc.
Can anyone help? Thank you.

When you were moved into the SG you became entitled to Contribution Based ESA again so you have been receiving ESA(CB) with an ESA(IR) top-up comprising of the Enhanced Disability Premium and the Severe Disability Premium, about £82 per week.
You don't say whether you have any other income or savings but the rule is that your ESA(IR) will be reduced by £1/week for every £250 of savings and assets in excess of £6000, there is a limit of £16,000 above which ESA(IR) is not payable.
So based on your post you should still be receiving some ESA(IR) although at a reduced rate.
Is it possible that the ESA(IR) has been suspended rather than stopped while the DWP wait for you to send in your bank statement?

Thank you Gordon for explaining the IR and CB part.
I have no other savings or income other than PIP.
DWP said that the IR ESA will stop and will be CB ESA from tomorrow. I don't know if that means suspended but they did say I will still be recieving payments so I am confused.

If you are outstanding to provide copies of your bank statements then you need to supply the DWP with these as quickly as you can then you can chase them for an update.
