Hi again, my wife is due a Home visit Assessment next week, she is at the moment High DLA and Mobility. I've read the .Gov advice to Assessors and also advice given here, but a couple of questions please:
Being of poor mobility , is there physical tests in the house as to length, or ability to walk, or pick up, or stand/sit etc?
Also how do I know the Assessors' occupation to assess whether they have the sufficient medical knowledge to understand the problems inherent in what is a profound but unusual Neurological and several other specialities condition?
I'm asking because I can't imagine a physio for example being competent to assess, through no fault of theirs, are they obliged to tell you if asked?
Lastly, for interest sake, does anyone know which of the big organisations who arrange the home visits have the contract for Glasgow assessments, as there is no indication in the paperwork as to who it is?
thank you

Hi Happyman

Re: home assessment.

1. Some claimants are asked to do simple test such as stand up and sit down, but that is it.
2. You can ask the assessor their occupation if they don't say, but don't assume they do not have the knowledge. (They may well not, but the DWP argument is that all assessors have been trained to carry out the assessment - and it is the PIP criteria they are focussed on - not the condition/s) Some assessors will not give you that information.
3. IAS have the contract for PIP in Glasgow.

Thank you BIS, one last question re "standing/sitting".....my wife is often confined to bed with extreme fatigue, or to relieve the pressure on her limbs. We were wondering if ,depending on the day, her being in bed is a problem for the Assessor (she wants this over and done with and not to be rescheduled).
We are worried that being in bed may appear as though she is putting on an act, so if it was a problem she could be relocated to a couch in the living room, which is not ideal for her for the 1-11/2 hours needed.

Hi Happyman

It's perfectly acceptable for your wife to stay in bed if she's too fatigued or in too much pain to get up. That's her normal so that's what you show to the assessor. By the way if she is asked to do any physical test that she is uncomfortable with, she is within her rights to refuse.
