Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

Have a look at the following

Your claim would not have been refused because you made a covert recording of the assessment, there must be some other reason.

thank you for those links i will take a look.

The letter we received stated that the claim was refused after looking at it twice because "Covertly recording an assessment is not permitted and so you failed to comply with the assessment process"

Any thoughts?

HI T Green

It is not illegal to covertly record your assessment, but the DWP don't like it as you will read in the article below. It is a report of a man who did just that and won at an appeal hearing.

It sounds as if it was decided that you failed to participate in the assessment and that is why you claim has been closed.

Did the assessor discover that you were recording the assessment?

They should have asked you to stop, did you refuse?

Was the assessment curtailed/stopped?

The assessor did discover we were recording and asked that we take the recorder out of the room which we did and the assessment continued for 8 minutes after. It was my daughters assessment who has a 95% hearing loss and severe anxiety. My daughter requested that the assessor write the questions down and she would answer. It was pointed out that this was her chosen method of comunication. The assessore agreed to do this and then ignored that and asked the questions verbely. The assessor became progresivly agresive attempting to bully my daughter into answering.I repeatedly asked the assessor to write the questions down. The assessor stopped the assessment because she was not allowed to bully my daughter and would not write the questions down. I moved the recorder to the hallway but left it running the assessor was unaware of this. This recording has shocked everyone who has listened to it even if it is unadmissable.
