Change of circumstances DLA to PIP was created by kosher
Hello, Has anyone else been told this? I was told by a benefits advice worker today that if you are on indefinite DLA then when you are invited to change to PIP you don't have to make a new claim but can just request that they transfer you onto PIP with information held on file from the previous doctors decision to place you on indefinite DLA...I was told that the DWP themselves aren't aware of this but just get people to reapply when you don't have to...

Hi Kym

You can always query what you have been told with the DLA for clarification, but I believe you have been misinformed and you certainly do have to put in a new claim.

The criteria for PIP is quite different than for DLA and they will not just transfer your previous information across even if you have an indefinite award which many people had.

They want to know how your health is now at the current time and how that impacts on your daily living and/or mobility as laid down in the PIP criteria. They won't make assumptions from past records even if they access them.

I believe if what you have been told is accurate it would have got out in the press before now and there would have been an uproar. (Always happy to be proved wrong).

Hi
I was indefinite award DLA and have been invited to claim PIP.
I did query if initial diagnosis on original DLA claim was assessable and was informed by DWP as it was back in 2001 it would be unlikely.
So yes completely new claim with updated evidence has been required , use the guides on here they are really helpful.
Hope this helps.

Well, that's interesting, because our PIP tribunal has been adjourned for the DWP to submit the paperwork for the previous ESA and DLA assessments (the latter dating back about as far as yours). I *hope* the panel's going to take that into consideration and isn't just wasting our time ...
