Independent Living Atos was created by David
Received a call from Atos to make an appointment in Croydon. Made it for 8 October. Then got message from Atos.whichheard on 1571. The person spoke so fast I had to ring DWP to get Atos’ main number in order to find out what was happening. If Atos speak so fast so you cannot pick up on info then worried about the quality of the assessment. I know from experience that when you give numbers you need to speak slowly with a short gap between numbers even for those without disabilities. They said that that would pay for taxis with an invoice. Should I ask for this in writing? Any advice for the interview. Incidentally the first date they offered me was 5 pm today!

Yo did not have to accept a short notice appointment but having done so you must now attend.
Yes, I would ask for confirmantion in writing about the taxi.

I wish I knew that I could delay for a while as it takes me so long to prepare for things. But wanting me to come at 5 today disorientated me. I thought that I was lucky to have a week’s notice. It was the longest period in the three other appointments offered.
Thanks for the reply.
Another question. I see a nurse on a regular basis but forgot to be it on the form. Should I mention it at the interview? I have physical and mental health issues. I was thrown off CMHT and placed with my GP. I have been denied seeing an expert clinical psychologist because of my age. I am over 65. In my area of London four boroughs have one centre for clinical psychology whilst under 65s have least two centres in each borough. The local commissioning group refuses to provide provision at the centre for anxiety and trauma in London for over 65s. An advocate and my GP said that I would have to fight the decision. I did not feel strong enough. I was offered 3 sessions by a inexperienced practitioner. My question: it is more difficult for over 65s to get psychological care where I live. So I could not mention it on the form or provide evidence for the form. Should I mention this at the assessment? I am barely managing.

Hi David
Yes, you can mention that you have the regular support of a nurse as it shows need. You can also mention the difficulties in not being able to access a psychologist, but they won't care about the politics behind it - so just keep it brief. Remember they are most interested in how your mental health difficulties impact your life against the specific PIP criteria.
