I have my assessment coming up for pip and have read stories that people who can drive get pip refused? Anyone have any advice om this, i can complete short journeys on my own in the car i.e to my mothers and sister when i go to stay with them but other journeys within the local vacinity i am acccompanied in the car
Unable to go to unfamiliar places on my own in the car gets me too stressed and am not able to use public transport

Hi Joanne

There are sometimes controversial decisions over driving. Often these are around mobility. For example if someone says they can only walk less than 20m, because of pain and mobility problems, the assessor will query, how they can safely drive a car, how far do they have to walk to get in the car, and how far do they have to walk when they reach their destination. If someone has a weakness in their arms, they will question how they have the strength to manage a car.

There is nothing wrong with the examples that you give that you can only manage what is familiar to you. You will not be the only person who says this. How the assessor will judge it, I cannot say, because it is the whole picture of your daily living, not that one aspect that is being judged. Just do your best to give a clear picture of what you can do, and what causes you difficulties, and/or distress.
