Hi, I've which just received the dreaded brown envelope.
I am really worried & everything is getting to me, If I have to go for an assessment I need my Daughter with me.
She is the only one that knows how my disability effects me, unfortunately she is a nurse & unable to change her shifts.
If my assessment comes on a day she is working I do have my Son or Daughter in law.
But if the assessor says something critical, my Son will get mad with them which I do not want!
I've got myself so worked up I can't eat & feel physically sick.
Should I send the last DWP letter which says what I am entitled too?
Unfortunately my Granddaughter shredded loads just the other week, which had all correspondence from hospital Doctors.
I have had many forms from the DWP which someone has filled in for me, but all the hype about PIP just scares me.
Please some reassurance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading,
Linda x

Hi Linda

If your daughter is not available to attend your assessment, and you are forced to take your son, you need to impress on him beforehand that he cannot argue or challenge the assessor. If he does so the assessment will be stopped, your papers will be returned to the DWP and it will be deemed you did not co-operate with the assessment and your claim will be closed. This has happened to members - so he really needs to understand what he is putting at risk.

I am sorry that your granddaughter shredded some correspondence. Only you know whether this was evidence of value, but if it gave details of your medical condition, then that is information that would have been helpful. Keep everything other than appointment letters. If you feel you do not have access to enough hospital information you can always access your hospital records.

You do not need to send in your previous award unless you can show its relevance to the PIP criteria.

We have excellent guides which you and your loved ones should look at to help you fill in the PIP form. You can either download the 93 page guide from the link below

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

or you can look at the individual sections online.

Hard to give you reassurance other than, fill in the form to the best of your ability. You will hear a lot of horror stories, but that is not the case for everyone and many people successfully get the awards they are hoping for.

Hi,
Thankyou for replying.
I will have to speak to my Son as he has a short fuse, if he thinks someone is in anyway being difficult with his family.
I really hope my Daughter will be able to come with me, as she has mainly looked after me since my MS attack back in the year 2000.
She has rang my doctor & asked for all medical reports to be sent to me, as well as a full medical which they said no too.
They said that medical reports will be enough, I just hope so!
I have never felt so scared on claiming a benefit before, the word PIP just makes me feel physically sick.
Always felt safe with DWP, but reading some horror stories on PIP has me worrying nearly 24/7
I have to have the forms back by the beginning of Nov', which due to my Daughter work schedule is really cutting it short.
As it could mean she will be filling them in after a 18hr shift when she is tired, also having to help bathe me will be no walk in the park for her lol.
I will show your reply to my Son hoping that will make him see sense.
Once again thanks for replying, will let you know how I get on fingers crossed.

Linda xx
