Reconsideration of mandatory reconsideration!

I just wanted to give some hope to those who have had so called mandatory reconsiderations where no change in the award was given and you feel your points were ignored.

I sat down and read both the initial award and the reconsideration comments from the case managers and felt that my points raised in MR were not considered. I began filling out my tribunal form and decided to give the DWP one last chance.

I spoke (nicely) to someone (in the decision making team) who appeared to actually understand what I was saying and my award was changed. I got what mattered to me the most but not necessarily what I would have argued at tribunal. The person explained how my points could be countered in some aspects and I could see where they were coming from even though I was still not necessarily wrong.

I felt that if they awarded me this (I can still go to tribunal), I felt it was fair in terms of an award. I don’t want to say what my award is.

The reason I thought I would update you is if you have been in a similar position, be prepared to go to tribunal but don’t think that they won’t reconsider their own decision. It has happened before, it’s happened to me and it could happen to you.
