Blue Badge was created by Porttalbot
Hi
I receive the enhanced rate for the daily living component and the standard rate for mobility which was awarded from 2015 until 2021. However, when I tried to use my PIP award to renew my blue badge, my local council would not accept it. I`m now 70 years old and the mobility award was made after I was 65, therefore, I`m not entitled to any payment.
When I received the yearly update it only referred to the enhanced daily living component and no reference to the mobility award. The only paperwork I had which indicated the mobility award was the original document dated October 2015. The local council said that they could not accept this paperwork because it was over a year old and therefore out of date although the award is until 2021.
Could you please advise me if there is a way around this situation please
Thanking you

If you had a Mobility award before you reached State Retirement Age then it would continue after SRA as long as you continue to meet the criteria for one, the legislation stops a new award being made or an existing one being increased, it does not remove an award.
Have you been reassessed since 2015? Was your Mobility original Mobility award removed?

Hi
Thank you for your response.
To answer your questions, no I have not been reassessed since 2015, also, I did not receive the mobility component prior to 2015. It was only in 2015 when I was 66 did I receive the mobility award which due to my age, I was not entitled to any payment which I accept, I shall refer to as a mobility theoretical award for clarification...
The question I have, should the theoretical mobility award be accepted for a blue badge. When I met the local council I gave them the 2015 assessment document which indicated the theoretical mobility award. However, they stated that because the document was dated 2015 they could not accept it as proof of my entitlement for the mobility award. Each year, when the Yearly update is issued by the DWP, it only refers to the daily living component which again the local council would not accept as proof.
Therefore, I would appreciate your thoughts if I`m able to get a blue badge when in theory I have been awarded the mobility component but not receiving any payment for it. Also, if I am entitled to receive a blue badge, how can I overcome the problem with dates on the paperwork, as stated above, the yearly update does not make any reference to mobility only living component.
I would appreciate your comments.
Regards
Swansea.

The requirement for automatic acceptance for a Blue Badge is that you were awarded at least eight points for the Moving Around activity, there are other qualifying criteria but no award was made, it does not matter why this happened, it did!
You can ask to be assessed by the Local Authority for a Blue Badge and if you have documentation from the DWP that states that you would have been awarded a qualifying award but for the age limit then you could use it in support of your claim.

Hi
Thank you for your response. I was awarded 10 points for mobility which should qualify me for a blue badge.
However, the sticking point with the local council was the date on the award which was 2015 until 2021. They said because the award was dated 2015 they could not accept it and required documentation dated for the current year or within the last 12 months.
The question I would appreciate if could answer for me please, how can I obtain an up to date documentation indicating the current year and mobility award of 10 points. The yearly update which I receive only refers to daily component award with no mention of mobility because I don't receive any payment for that award.
Thanking you

The DWP won't issue a more up to date award letter, your Local Authority should know this.
The procedure should be for you to send the original award letter which will explain how the Mobility award was made and your latest entitlement letter to show that the award is still in place.
