Have had both of my required ESA assessments at home due to mental health issues. On both occasions I was sent an appointment for an assessment centre, contacted them and sent GP's letter of support, both were granted and successful.
I am just in the middle of a review for PIP and received the letter requiring me to attend an assessment centre. When they were contacted it was a different experience to ESA, they asked over the telephone how did I get to medical appointments, collect prescriptions, and do my shopping? (We had sent the current GP's letter with the review in anticipation of them requesting it and explained the two ESA home visits with evidence)
This is the part that concerned me the most: We were told that an health professional would look at our request but the centre appointment that we wish to 'cancel' does count as one of two appointments offered? I really don't see how they can say that a claimant is 'cancelling' and that the first appointment can be counted under the circumstances?
My request for a home visit has been granted and I am awaiting an appointment but I just wanted to air my concerns on here and see if this is the norm for PIP?
Once they have sent out that first appointment, it counts as one of two - even if you subsequently send a letter requesting a home visit. So yes, it is the norm.
