Claiming Carers Allowance was created by Ruth
My 26 year old son has autism and lives at home. This year he was moved from DLA to PIP, which (like so many other people) was initially turned down. When his claim was rejected my Carers Allowance was stopped. Now that we have won the tribunal and he's been awarded both components I am going to claim carers allowance again (although to be honest I think it should just be automatically reinstated, but that's another gripe!). I qualify on all the points...I care for him for more than 35 hours per week and I'm not working or earning any income. However, the form asks for my partners National Insurance number and I'm wondering if anyone knows why? I didn't think CA was based on household income so I can't understand why it's needed. Will his earnings be taken into account? If so, there isn't any point in me claiming. I'd be very grateful if anyone could answer this for me. Many thanks.

It is so that they can check whether your partner is receiving a benefit that might be affected by your claiming Carers Allowance, for example; Universal Credit or Income Support.
