Hi all,
I submitted my claim for PIP almost 6 weeks ago, since then I have been prescribed new medication on a number of times. Each time this happens I call the dwp to report a. Change in my circumstances. I did this just the other day and whilst on the phone I asked if there was an update on my claim to which she replied “we have received your claim and it is now with the assessor”. Is an assessor the same as decision maker meaning I won’t need a phone assessment at all?

Hi Michelle

No the assessor is different from a decision maker, the assessor will look at your condition and how it affects you, they will either phone you or do a paper assessment depending on the supporting documents. They will then produce a report called PA4 which is then sent to DWP to make a decision.

We ask claimants to contact DWP a few days after an assessment to get a copy of the assessors report so that if anything is incorrect, if you are quick you maybe able to write to the decision maker and point out any errors the assessor has missed and has not taken on board information you have supplied in reply to question X and the medical evidence you supplied in support of this, see page Y of the information attached to your form.
