PIP, ESA and a lodger? was created by Emanie
A friend of mine has CPTSD and is really struggling to cope. I also really struggle to cope.
We both claim PIP, ESA and Carers allowance and have thought about him moving in to my spare room.
I think it would be a good idea for us both but I am worried the DWP will start looking at us as a couple. Does anyone have any experience of doing this sort of thing?
Thank you,
Em.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

It would not be unheard of for the DWP to treat you as a couple, realistically the only way to avoid this is for the spare room usage to be formalised, some sort of rental agreement and a payment book for any monies paid to you.

Thank you very much Gordon.
A very sensible suggestion.
I am thinking that the DWP will definitely remove at least one lot of carers allowance but it seems a sensible way forward as I already advocate for him and we get along.
