Hi, thank you . No, there was no gap, I claimed UC the day my Income support stopped. Its all very confusing isn't it! I just thought that a person was not allowed to be worse off when claiming universal credit. Thanks again. Oh, and yes, I was the carer for my son and still am , only not officially.

Hi Filey

Quite often claimants are worse off claiming UC, which is why we advise them to seek help from their local Welfare Rights Organisation who will be able to take all their circumstances into consideration or if they are unable to get to their local Welfare Rights Organisation then use an online benefit calculator; gov.uk/benefits-calculators .

In regards to receiving a benefit payment if your son wins his appeal, as you are now in receipt of UC, this could create an over payment.
