Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Fiona
If you want them to record, it's best to give them prior warning.
If you can, you should make your own recording. You don't need to ask them for permission, as it's your home and for your private use.

Hi Fiona, please act on BIS's sound advice. If you have any person you don't mind hearing your personal info that you can ask, it's good to have a friend or someone sensible with you. If they can deal with starting your private recording, it will allow you to concentrate on what the assessor is saying to you.
It's no unknown for them to promise you their recording but then it's mysteriously 'lost,' 'equipment malfunctioned,' etc. So better safe than sorry.
You should tell the assessor that you have a supporter [don't mention recording] and this person can help you stay on task, remember bits if you are struggling to recall, as much as you want them to. Primarily it is your job to answer, but I think most assessors don't get stroppy about contributions from the supporter, they just want to get through so they earn as much as they can.
If you need the loo or to get up and walk around, fetch a drink, say so. You are in control not them. Though most people have a drink to hand ready.
Hope it goes OK,

Thankyou, I’ve just had the assesment it lasted a whole 2 hours. I asked for it recorded at the beginning and after the advice on here I recorded too. I asked the assessor if they had my mountain of evidence sent with my form and they replied ‘they’ll have it’ so I’m not sure what that means? I’m totally exhausted now but I’m really worried with it taking that long

Hi Fiona
Glad that it is over and done with it. The remark about the evidence means that the assessor probably hadn't looked at it before the assessment, which some don't.

Hi Fiona
You can ring the DWP and ask for a copy of the assessor's report 48hrs after your assessment took place. It's called a PA4
