Phone apps considered as aids? was created by ital
Hi,
Is there any legislation regarding the use of phone apps as aids? For example, an alert app to remind you to take medication or to eat. I use a flashing light alert app for these purposes, but would they be taken into consideration on a PIP review form? Given that most people rely on their smart phones for so many things nowadays, wouldn't certain phone apps be regarded as necessary?

Hi ital

There isn't any specific legislation about telephone apps. Most apps are not counted as aids because they have not been specifically designed for people with disabilities, and so they are viewed as a choice that claimants make. There are some that have been specifically designed for a range of disabilties. You can argue that you need an alert to take your medication, but they often ignore it unless not taking your medication would be life-threatening.
