Thank you for the great advice when migrating from IB esa to UC. I input all the info you suggested when I got access to my journal. I was put in the correct group , I stated that I should be placed in the UC group equilivant from beginning of my claim and I was. As expected I received my 2 week run on of Esa and HB. DWP have deducted £609 and they state Esa as reason. I replied in journal asking if they had taken my 2 week run off by mistake. No reply. Called Esa waited an hour and 29 mins before they answered and they said I was now entitled to Contribution based Esa and had a payment of £295. I entered that info in journal and said I know that will be deducted but that doesn't explain the £609 deducted. No reply. I called Universal Credit only waited 10 mins amd the guy said any Esa is deducted from UC. I said if it's the run on of Esa and HB that you habe taken off that should not have happened as it doesn't effect my UC . He just kept repeating any Esa is taken off, he had no idea about the 2 week run on. He said he would escalate my case to a case manager . I said I'm due to be getting my first payment on Friday 23rd and once the New Style Esa is deducted I will still be over £300 short. Received confirmation in my journal that he had asked a case manager to look into it and message said woukd be contacted by 6pm yesterday. No message , no phone call and only received the wrong amount tiday. As you suggested I emailed my MP amd hopefully he will be able to help. It's awful that DWP "agents" are not trained correctly to know the rules of DWP. Am awaiting response from MP. Thank you again for all the fantastic advice in the guides. Very helpful.

Hi Annietush

UC payments are paid monthly (I know you will already no this).

The £609 deduction is a monthly average of you CB ESA and this is deducted from your UC.

CB ESA I'm sure is or has changed to New Style ESA.

You will / should receive a payment of CB ESA / New Style ESA on the same day as you previously received ESA.

Also this payment is fortnightly.

Hope this info helps.

Good Luck

Did you ever get this resolved?

I've just realised the same has happened to me - essentially those of us who were on ESA but technically CB ESA with an IR top up, don't actually get the full benefit of the run on payments.

I too have had £609 deducted from my upcoming first UC payment, which is the full amount of the CB ESA (£140.55 pw), so the only "run on" payment that we actually benefit from is the IR top up of £104.10 pw.

This seems very unfair, as those who were on full IR ESA (I don't even know what the criteria for that is, are we penalised because we worked & paid taxes prior to claiming ESA?) would get the full ESA run on payment with no deductions from UC, as no ESA element would remain on their ESA claim.

That is not how it works.. You will have the £609 deduction from your UC EVERY month, as you will STILL GET YOUR ESA.

Someone that did not get this the [contrib ESA] [so just the IR] would not have the deduction from the UC, as their ESA would have been stopped, yours will not be, hence it is deducted from the UC

You have had the 2 week run on, as UC is paid a month in arrears. You would have had your esa paid for two weeks at the reduced rate of £281.10 a fortnight instead of the £489.30

Hi xxxxxx

The advantage of the New Style ESA is that it is not a means tested Benefit. So if in the future circumstances were to change and you had more savings or a change in your household then your ESA would not be affected.
