Caring for each other was created by Petlover
My husband and I are nearing the end of our migration on to universal credit from ESA. I have to say, that so far, while it’s been far from stress-free, I do find the journal useful, and have received prompt replies.
My question is, we both care for each other, and while on ESA, had two carers’ premiums. Is it true that one of us now has to claim Carer’s Allowance separately, and do I ask for it to be backdated to the date of our UC claim.
Thank you.

Hi Petlover

No to get the UC Carer's Element you don't have to claim Carer's Allowance.

You will have a Joint UC claim and it is possible to get 2 UC Carer's Elements.

Let me know how you get on.

It was all surprisingly easy in the end. We got one carer’s element, and one LCWRA. The transitional payment was added on and it’s all good.
I’ve had a letter today saying a work coach from new style ESA will ring me. I was in the support group and am now getting new style ESA (CB). Is this normal to do an assessment after an ESA-UC migration?

Hi Petlover

Yes, it is normal to do an assessment after a migration, time for the assessment can vary across regions depending on the availability of staff.
