PiP activity 5 managing toilet & incontinence

Sorry I’ve been reading responses to activity 5 and can’t find any relating to an assisted wet & dry toilet (closomat toilet).

Would a closomat toilet be classed as an aid on activity 5 ?

It is to be installed following a social workers referral to the occupational therapist team who have recommended the adaptation be installed to assist with my deteriorating bowel issue.

It’s to have additional features added to the standard wet & dry toilet, including a light touch sensor that can be wall or floor mounted as they don’t believe I will be able to operate the toilet handle, it will have integrated handles to better help get on/off the toilet safely every time and a padded seat that helps reduce pressure sores due to bowel condition.

my reason is the question is based on using a standard toilet, see what DWP includes on the reassessment form below:-

“ Activity 5 - Managing toilet needs and incontinence
This activity looks at how your health condition or disability affects how you manage to clean yourself and getting on and off the toilet.
We can consider things like:
getting on and off a standard toilet including using furniture to help
• stoma / catheters or similar
• incontinence.”

How do I find examples of decisions where I can see what constitutes 4points or more award.

Hope you are able to give me a answer.

Hi Jdh

If you have a look at the guide to PIP claims and Reviews - page 52 - it says "If you have an adapted toilet you will need to explain what problems you would have if you tried to use an unadapted one.

You don't even have an adapted one at the moment, so you talk about the difficulties you have now. In order to score at least four points, you need the assistance of some sort for both 5d, 5e, and 5f. If you don't currently have assistance but you really do need some, then say so and tell them about any difficulties you experience. There are some sample answers, which you can adapt to your current position.

Do make sure that you look at page 54 where it has a paragraph marked "Caution." - This will apply to you if you do choose to tell them about the proposed new toilet.
