Confused about NI only ESA claim decision

Hi, I've been medically retired from work for over 20 years. Used to get IB but didn't get ESA on migration. Have had PIP since retiring.

I put in a claim for ESA purely for NI credits, as I get a private pension & my husband still works full time.

I did the forms, went for an assessment, and have had a letter today which is titled 'a change In the employment and support allowance rate payable'

It says my claim has been looked at again following a recent change & I can't be paid as I don't have enough NI contributions.

It also says ' we may still credit you with NI contributions while claiming ESA'

Is this my decision letter? The man I spoke to on the phone back in March was fully aware that I didn't qualify for either income based, or NI based ESA but told me he would put the claim through as credits only.

Was I given the wrong information? Have I jumped through all these hoops for nothing?

Hi Jay Mac

You may well now be receiving your NI credits. There is a facility to check online if you create a gov.uk account.
