Hi Forum,

I am appointee for sister. She told me yesterday that she has been offered a job, due to start in August 25.

While I am pleased for her its a great achievement even to get through a recruitment process , i am concerned about her capacity. She will push herself but I fear she won't be able to sustain a FT role and travel everyday. We will be back to previous situation where sickness record means she will be let go.

i am trying to understand the impact of the job offer on her UC ... what do i have to plan for and deal with? i've asked her for job description details and will share with DWP before she starts but then what ......

BTW she her ADHD diagnosis has been confirmed this month. So i guess , we need to ensure that the employer is aware and can make reasonable adjustment if needed ?

Any thoughts . pointers appreciated

Hi Sum

Depending on the type of work your sister is doing the DWP may re-assess your Appointeeship.

As far as the finances are concerned have you tried a Benefits calculator such as Entitledto.co.uk ?

Hi Sum

If it was me I would wait until the end of her first day at work to inform the DWP. Usually the first day of employment is a sort of trial day and the employee can walk away without consequences if they cannot satisfactorily do the work.
I should imagine the DBS check will take longer than usual during the summer holiday.

Atm i am supporting sis by prompting her to find her paperwork and complete their requests for info . Thats a challenge in itself as she cant find anything inc her passport.

She called to enquire about a course she was interested in and this led to a suggestion and encouragement from them to apply for a role at the college as a learning support assistant. hey presto here we are !

your suggestion sounds perfect bec i think it will be a reality check for sis on day 1. Although she is expected to attend training from mid August before term starts i guess.
