Apologies to post here but I cannot find how to ask a question on the Forum. I am a single parent on long term sick with mental health, I am still employed but my toxic employer has ended my Group Income Protection from the end of August following a disability discrimination ET1 claim, which wont be heard until 2027. I have been paying NI tax etc and will need to claim in September when income goes to 0. I cant get my head around the UC/ESA. Also do they check my bank accounts, what do I need to prepare and which is the best benefit for me to claim Never had benefits before so really unclear on the rules. thanks in advance

Hi DP

I have moved your post, because you asked the question in someone else's post. We ask people not to do that, because it makes it difficult for us to know who we are replying to, and it can get very confusing. If you have any questions, just start a new post.

I would advise you to speak to a specialist welfare advisor so they can look at your entire situation and tell you what benefits you may be able to claim for. Use the link below to check if one is available in your area.

We have a guide on the process of claiming UC/ESA and you can read about it here benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/esa. The first guide is the one you want to look at, when you are ready.

They don't check people's bank accounts, but occasionally, people are asked to provide bank statements (generally for three months)
