Migration to UC: asking for an extension and using the journal was created by CG31
This query is about a) requesting an extension and b) which section of the journal to enter information
Background
A friend is in the ESA support group and dealing with multiple health issues, he's completed the to-do-list and is unsure where to enter information that does not fit the options offered on the form. This is making him very anxious. The original notice gave him till 6 September to complete but initially he was very unwell and could not start it. He was also having to move house and that happened last week. He's set up the account and has completed the to-do-list about 5 days ago and has now received an appointment to confirm his identity at on Saturday 6th September.
He's not sure if he will have all the documents with his new address on by Saturday so wondering if he can request an extension by explaining this in his journal? If Yes then where should he add it because the options offered just don't include this. Also he wants to add in the following:
- add in the paragraph on Page 19 of the B&W guide about "please be aware that I am migrating from ESA...." and also to information as about which section to enter ESA Support group and
- let them know he does not want phone calls (he's struggling to cope with this already)
Thank you

Hi CG31
You cannot ask for a Migration extension once you have submitted your UC claim.
He doesn't need proof of address to confirm his ID with the DWP. He will need that for the Housing Costs ( tenancy agreement etc ).
He can send a Journal message that he does not communicate by phone and only through the UC account. But if he rejects the phone interview then I expect he will need a face to face meeting at the Jobcentre or possibly a Home Visit.
Hope this helps

Entry in journal - where in the journal would you suggest he puts the issue about taking phone calls - it’s not clear where to enter it

Hi CG31
I would put your message in at least a couple of times to different recipients. There is no harm in sending it to as many recipients as possible.
