Parkinsons - CiC vs Review success

Dear B&W friends,

I may have posted before that i submitted a CiC for loved one around June 25 , just before the review was due. So i had to do the review as well πŸ˜•- double trouble

DWP decision on the CiC is back. I am pleased to say the award has been uplifted from std DL to enhanced and from no mobility to enhanced mobility.

Not had a response from the Review team. 🀞🏼the decsion is in sync !!

Although i am pleased the award has changed to enhanced . I am still sitting on the fence about the points awarded under daily living activities.

Is there anything i should consider before challenging the scoring OR would i be better off reporting CiC to reinforce correct scoring for activiites .... eg communication tasks are scored zero atm but in actual fact loved one needs support .

The challenge wont make difference to financial award, but in my mind would reflect his condition more accurately and the so the scoring ......

what do you think of this approach ? Am i being pedantic about the scores ?

Hi Sum

This is something you will have to decide for yourself. Some claimants are just satisfied with the award and don't want to risk the DWP changing their mind if they challenge where the points were awarded and some people feel so strongly they insist on telling the DWP what they think.

You can say that you are satisfied with the award, but are unhappy with the actual points allocated and ask for your comments to be put on file, but you do need to understand that there is a small risk they may look again and change their decision. I have only heard of that happening once, but it is a risk.

Thanks Bis

Theres a risk to every DWP process ....

i do want my opinion on the scoring noted. it at very least highlight how sloppy/selective the assmt and scoring process is.

how do i make the stm ?

This may be a silly question but reading all the Posts about reviews got me thinking .....

Should i be updating PIP on every CiC re Parkinson's health and treatment plans as they occur OR do i wait for next a formal review ?

current PIP award = EDL + Mob.

Condition is ongoing deterioration. I assume by providing updates it would b evidence that condition has not improved , and demonstrates progressive decline.

Is this pointless approach, bec regardless of updates, DWP will still issue a review in normal way ?

Hi Sum

It's not a stupid question at all, but this is something you will have to decide for yourself. The DWP always says they want to be informed if a person's condition has changed. In reality, they want to be informed when a claimant's condition improves so they can reduce or remove an award.

So some claimants choose to inform the DWP about changes through a change in circumstances because they hope to get an improvement of their award. Sometimes that is success, and often it isn't. Other people are not sure whether they will receive an improved award even though their condition has deteriorated, and so they wait until their next review to inform the DWP, even though it might mean they have missed out on an improved award earlier.

There are those people who have enhanced for both parts and so don't keep informing the DWP of a deterioration because it won't make any difference to their award and there are quite a large number of people who can't face a potential review - so don't inform the DWP of a change just in case a review is triggered earlier than they are expecting.

So, it's up to each individual what they do, when they do it and how they do it.
