My son, in his early 20's has suffered from MH issues since age 15, including severe OCD, autistic traits, (undiagnosed), anxiety, depression and social phobias. He took an overdose in May 2023 and has been in the LCWRA at risk group since. He has got himself a job which he enjoys and is gradually increasing his hours.
Without a structure or clear instruction to do something my son lacks motivation and procrastinates. He has always been this way. He has now received an instruction to upload 4 months +-*bank statements to UC. Despite me telling him to he never got round to updating his savings tally, which has over the 2 years 5 months since claiming increased to around £8500, including £1900 Help to Save which he wouldn't accept was part of the total.
I don't think he meant to mislead anyone. He talks about doing all sorts of things but never gets round to them. He accepts that he may have to repay money which has been overpaid and has now updated his savings in his journal. He will do the bank statements today. I'm worried sick about all of this. What is likely to happen and have you any advice?

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Christine
I actually don't think much will happen as your son is in the LCWRA group and so is vulnerable particularly considering his previous suicidal ideation.
He will just be asked to return the small over payment or it could be deducted at source from his UC.
Have you checked that he was awarded his UC Work Allowance from the correct dates?
It should be from the date of his WCA decision and not 3 months later.
