I have messed up again Uc Query was created by lollo1
Hi, I have managed to migrate our son over from IR ESA to UC, I am his appointee. He was in support group, on housing benefit and had permitted work for 1 hour a week and had SDP. When I completed his UC form I misinterpreted the page with regards to working. I contacted UC and asked how would I record his permitted work as I was aware this didn't exist in UC and they just said on the journal. Fast forward 3 weeks and I had an appointment at the Job Centre to confirm my ID and his ID. Again I explained he did music and had permitted work on ESA as he gets money from streaming it. Again told to put a note in the journal. His first statement came through it was all correct apart from a deduction of £60. This was the amount I had entered on the journal for a payment he had. I now ralise this has been taken as unerned income and not self employment/sole trader. I am an overthinker at the best of times but I immediately went to his journal after reading some advice online and declared it as a change of circumstances and gave them the information that was needed as self employed/sole trader.
So will this affect his payment that is due on Friday 24th.?
Will this also affect his UC in general as he is in the LCWRA?
Lastly will he lose any of his transitional protection that is on his statement due to this change.
I feel so stupid for not doing this correctly, I stupidly went on the advice of the 2 people I spoke to.
Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Hi lollo1

It all depends how efficient the UC staff are as normally when self employment is initially reported it creates a UC payment block. However this should be manually removed if LCW or LCWRA has been awarded.
You should find out tomorrow as that is when his UC payment statement will be posted to his account.
His Transitional Element should not be reduced by earnings though his total UC payment can be.

Hi thanks David, his statement was available yesterday so we could see how I had miss reorted his payment. That was when I realised that they had deducted the payment I had put in his journal as opposed to self employed payment. His housing element, his basic UC and LCWRA were all correct on the statement. We were intially told he could earn £411 per moth before it would affect his UC, is this correct as I seem to have had such conflicting advice between citizens advice and DWP.

Hi lollo1

Yes that is correct. The Work Allowance is £411 if the claimant is in receipt of the Housing Costs element.
