Query UC was created by Bud
Hello folks,
We recently put in for UC. My H is my carer & gets an underlying entitlement to carers. He is also in LCWRA.
I have a choice apparently, I can either fill in a WCA …. or I can go down the carers route & become my H’s carer.
I’ve been told on the phone by UC that as an unpaid carer I wont have to look for work. Also I was told in my journal that my H will be in the LCWRA, & I will become the carer as he can’t have both.
That’s all good & well, but will I get any benefit stopped due to this? I’ve been told not, but can they be trusted? I’ve also been told by carers to wait until we get our 1st payment, then for me to put in for carers for my H.
Can you advise please?
Thanks

Hi Bud
If you pay Council Tax you need to check your local Council's Council Tax Reduction Scheme and whether it is in your interests to get LCW or LCWRA status. I can't tell you as they are all different throughout the country.
Otherwise for UC financially it's not going to make a difference, present circumstances considered. But it is easier for you to not go through the WCA medical and just be your husband's carer.
Let me know how you get on.

Hello David
Apart from much kicking & screaming from myself, everything seems to have worked out quite well for us. That is compared to what some people have been through. I decided to go down the carers route, it was best for us.
We had our CT bill today & it’s gone from just over £200 to just over £500. I’ve done a quick rough calculation on the CTR, I think it’s probably right. I’ll get H to do one too just check. If he gets any further reduction, I’ll report back.
Thanks
