Universal credit and State pension query was created by Lynz
Hopefully you will be able to answer my query, I understand that you will answer with 'as it is now' and the DWP could change the criteria. I am 65 and I'm in receipt of UC and PIP, my husband is 67 and receives State pension and PIP my question is, when I become pension age what will happen to my UC claim, as in the housing benefit council tax and the severe disability premium will that all stop I'm really worried if it does how I will pay my rent and pay my bills.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Lynz
I cannot answer your question as I am not prescient. All sorts of changes may happen to Benefits and Council Tax in the coming years. The best thing you can do is keep an eye on the News section at BenefitsandWork www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/news

Hi David I understand what you are saying but I was hoping you could of answered based on as things are today.
If I was asking you the same question, but as if this was happening today. Would you be able to give me a reply?

Hi Lynz
Your UC will stop one day before you reach state pension age.
3 months before you reach state pension age you should receive a letter from the Pension Service inviting you to apply for your state pension, depending on your circumstances you may also be eligible to claim guarantee pension credit (GPC).
You should also apply for Housing Benefit from your local authority, as you are in receipt of UC you should be getting Housing Element in with your UC unless it is paid direct to your landlord, this will stop day before your birthday.
We would advise you to seek specialist advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk where they can take all your circumstances into consideration when giving you advice.
