Needs Could Change? was created by Ianeif2
Hi, I'm currently filling in my pip form and looking at me previous assessment scores, at the end of them, it is, I'm awarding you pip for a set time because your needs may change

I have a disease that only gets worse with age that has already stated to get much worse. I've worked most of my life with it but I can no longer do so for pain and sheer exhaustion.

What do they mean my needs may change?

Why do I have to keep going through these degrading medicals when they can look into the disease and see that there is no cure and it only gets worse?

Are they thinking I'm going to improve, or might have some kind of recovery?

Thanks

Hi laneif2

It's a standard statement that assessors frequently use - there might be occasions when it's appropriate and others when it isn't. They can use it, implying that someone's condition might improve, and they might not need the same amount of support; if their condition worsens, they may need more. I have seen it used even when someone has been awarded enhanced for both mobility and daily care - but they don't have an ongoing award.

I understand your frustration when you have a condition that only worsens, but the DWP will argue that they cannot judge how quickly someone's condition may get worse. If you're filling out your form, you can always request a longer award in the section where it asks if you have anything else to tell them.
