Do I have to have an appointee for UC?

I have capacity to make financial decisions but not the ability to process/ complete the DWP paperwork for UC. I have been told I must have an appointee - is this right? I was thinking and would like to have reasonble adjustments that the DWP speek to a third party for the bits I do not have the ability for. I do have an LPA in place if social serivces say I do not have financial capacity in the future, which would be registered with DWP at that point.

Thank you for any help pointing to the right rules for appiontees and reasonable adjustments.

Hi Jacob

I'm afraid the DWP can insist, in certain circumstances, that a claimant must have an appointee, even if the claimant does not want one. You can, of course, argue with them (and you should do so if this is not what you want), but be warned, they are likely to say they are working in your best interests. You should repeat what you have said here and ask them to make reasonable adjustments and see what their response is.
