When to Close UC claim ? was created by Sum
Hiya B&W
The clmt has been working fulltime since Sept 2025. She was on UC LCWRA before starting work and i was worried about her losing the UC without any future guarantee of long-term job security.
The UC LCWRA clm was left open. As the Appointee this was new territory for me and wasn't sure what to expect ,I thought DWP would close the claim bec of CIC.
DWP continued to assess and after a number of NIL assessment periods, i was thinking about closing the claim. However, there have been periods where clmt has been off sick from work and this has been reflected in some DWP payments recently.
She isn't well most days, but she soldiers on and just pushes through bec she loves the job ...... its a perfect match for her and her neurodiversity. Recently she went to ED , paramedics attended at her work. She wanted to go into work the next day despite not being painfree or fully recovered from being in ED 8Hrs experience. She just doesnt want to let work down despite not being 100%.
What i want to know .....
1-The claim wasnt closed by DWP and continued to be assessed with HMRC input on earnings ... is this normal
2- How long does this go on for ..... is there a point when DWP will close claim ? if so whats the trigger ?
3- Does the fact the earnings are reduced due to sickness serve to demonstrate/evidence (in the future) she isnt fully fit and onging health conditions impacting her ability to stay in work ?
4 - if i close the claim , and hope for the best that work carries on , albeit inconsistently, will this make thing difficult if worse case happens and she has to leave the job ?
Any help understanding future scenarios and outcomes would be a help
Thanks in advance.

Hi Sum
You say that you are the Appointee for someone who is employed in a full time job.
I think the first thing you need to do is to Journal message the UC Case Manager regarding this situation and I strongly expect that your Appointeeship will be reviewed.
Let me know how you get on.
