Report your neighbour for fraud...... was created by Arthritic Annie
Hi All,
My anxiety is through the roof, the NI version of DWP has just launched a new campaign for neighbours to report each other for suspected fraud.
I have nothing to hid but my anxiety is through the roof everytime I hear the advert on the radio or on the tv. Its hard enough to be taken seriously as a 'relatively' young person with a chronic debilitating condition without the worry of being forced to go through additional checks or whatever being investigated might actually look like. Just curious does anyone know if someone is reported at what stage do you be notified?
The minister was on the tv the other night sneering about the amount of mobility cars in NI and saying people reporting each other is up from 6000 last year to over 9000 this year. How naming and shaming is working as they are now back publishing names.
No word of how all this makes people worry and has a further negative impact on their health.
Sorry, I think im just ranting again. I think I just come here when I need reassurance as I know everyone here feels the same and are just fed up of being constantly kicked when down.
Thank you

Hi Arthritic Annie
Here is a link to the Minister's statement regarding Welfare Fraud:-
www.communities-ni.gov.uk/news/minister-...fare-fraud-and-error
As for your question regarding when you will know. You probably may never know as UC claimants these days are subjected to various reviews including the annual Automated Claim review and the Targeted Case review. So you won't know if your review is prompted by a Compliance referral or is routine.

there's not a single word that Gordon Lyons said in that instance, that I disagree with. It's the claimant's responsibility to make absolutely sure that no rules are broken.
Of course, the way to do this is to make sure one knows and understands the rules. As they say: ignorance is no excuse.
It's already hard to deal with the DWP at all.....how foolish is to make things harder for oneself? As the DWP says: you must report any change of circumstance to us. If you aren't sure, report it anyway.
One has nothing to lose by doing that, but much to lose by not doing it. Don't be afraid of reporting changes of circumstance. Sure, inform yourself about it before hand, ask in these forums etc. But don't postpone it, deal with it immediately.

''How naming and shaming is working as they are now back publishing names.''.
This is nothing new, and it's different than what is today called 'naming and shaming'. This is not a group of ignorant people on social media being self-righteous and attacking someone else for thinking differently or looking differently, it's publicly denouncing someone who committed a crime.
Fraud is crime, it's nothing else. Gordon Lyons is 100 per cent spot on everything he said there.

Dear Invisible, there's a bit of a problem about 'neighbour reporting' which I fear you may have overlooked. I believe many such reports are false and made out of malice towards someone who is disliked or envied, not necessarily for any good reason. If the person reported is named there is a risk they will be persecuted, even if it is found they are actually innocent. So this is an area in which more caution should be shown. Denby

Hi denby,
This is correct. And, there are many hidden disabilities.
