Hi

I've had my first PIP review and received a decision within 10 days of sending it off for the same award (SC/ HM 4 yrs), exactly the same points as before (11 C 12M) My form clearly stated that my needs had increased and provided evidence.

My question is whether the review letter is meant to give reasons for the decision or is merely advisory as mine had no reasons given. It did say however that 'I have awarded you PIP for a longer time as your circumstances have changed' . This is untrue, they haven't awarded it for a longer time, so I don't understand what they're on about!

I know I can apply for a Mandatory Review - I won't do that as I'm very seriously ill and I couldn't manage, so I just wondered really if it's normal to not provide reasons for a decision which isn't presented as a 'no change' and make errors with times etc and if there's anything I can do about it apart from a MR?

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Yes, unfortunately, it is quite common for them to make errors and not provide reasons for their decisions. If you had a paper-based decision, and it sounds as if you did, then there is no report to back up how they came to their decision.

I'm afraid - apart from an MR, there is nothing you can do. An MR is supposed to be submitted within a month of the date on the decision letter - but if you can't reach that deadline, and I understand you can't - you may want to do it later (if you feel able to) . You have another 12 months to submit a 'late mandatory reconsideration'. You would have to give an explanation why you didn't do it immediately, and you would say 'seriously ill'.
