would you still able to score 12 points if you go abroad and catch a plane ? meaning you still have the severe anxiety and fear you might miss the flight constantly checking if you have your documents and money with you and the same anxieties when you are still in the uk about going outside also needing diazepam to keep you calm? if you score points and get the higher rate mobility can you still go out on your own ? bearing in mind you still have the severe symptoms ?

Hi saud

PIP is awarded on the basis of what people are able to do for the 'majority' of the time. PIP claimants are allowed to go away on holiday. However, the DWP and assessors have started to ask about people's holidays, because they don't believe that what some claimants describe as their symptoms match their holiday arrangements.

For example, I know of someone who recently claimed to be housebound on their PIP review form, yet the DWP did not believe it because the person reported going on holiday twice within six months. The DWP took the view that if they were able to leave the house, go to a busy airport, get on a plane- spend two weeks in a hotel and go out each day - then they could not claim they were 'housebound'.

The claimant tried arguing that they were still housebound whilst at home, and the symptoms that caused this had not changed, but the DWP did not agree. So yes, a person should still be able to score 12 points and go on holiday - but it will depend on what they were originally awarded for, and how it continues to impact their mobility.
