When does the 3 month relevant period for LCWRA payments start from? was created by Melissa
Hi,
I am currently in the process of applying for UC and doing the WCA50 form. I have significant health issues (CFS/ME and OCD) and anticipate I should be found to be in the LCWRA category. I have recently learnt that the payment rate is being reduced by about half on 6th April. I am concerned about whether I will be ahead of this deadline or not. I understand that to get the higher rate you need to have your first payment before 6th April. I understand that once your assessment process is complete and you are found to be in the LCWRA category they backdate your LCWRA payments to 3 assessment periods after a certain point - I believe from when you "first submit medical evidence".
I am unclear as to whether this means 3 assessment periods after I first initially signed up to UC and listed that I have health conditions on my initial application and submitted my first FIT note (2nd Nov 2025 - so presumably this means I would get the higher rate)
OR
whether it is 3 assessment periods from when I hand in my WCA50 questionnaire (trying to finish it as I write this and will have missed the 6th April deadline)
Does anyone know when the 3 months is from? It is unclear from my research online although lots of places seem to suggest its from when you first submitted your first FIT note and I hope that is the case.
Thank you very much in advance for any knowledge on this.

Hi Melissa
You say " I understand that to get the higher rate you need to have your first payment before 6th April." This is incorrect. You need to have made your new UC claim before the 6 April and also submitted Fit Notes. You need to continuously supply Fit Notes until the result of the WCA. If you get LCWRA then they will apply 3 full UC Assessment Periods from the date of the first medical evidence before you get paid the LCWRA element.
Let me know how you get on.
