Hi all, I need some advice regarding PIP mandatory reconsideration (MR) extension request/tribunal appeals extention
Context:
-Requested PIP application form in Jan 2025
-submitted PIP application in Jul 2025
-PIP telephone assessment in oct 2025
-PIP decision letter recived in Nov 2025
- MR in Dec 2025. Kind of done over the telephone. In that i explained that i disagred with the decision and wanted to complete a written MR and submit evidence. Explained that it will be impossible to submit the CRM1 form and evidence in one month due to my disabilities and lack of help.
-PIP called me in febuary 2026 out of the blue telling me i have to submit by the end of march , i explained that i couldnt and followed up with a letter on 16 March 2026 detailing why and requesting an extension under dwp s โ13 month ruleโ (as per benefit and work MR guide) that extends deadlines by 13 months for extenuating circumstances. I have been effectively housebound from oct to mar struggling due to chronic fatigue, mental health and neurodiversity (ADHD& dyslexia).
I didnt recieve a reply to my letter (they have ignored my request).
On 7 Apr 2026 I recieved a Mandatory Reconsideration Notice (dated 28 March 2026), leaving me with less than 3 weeks to prepare an appeal to the tribunal. Realistically, there is no way I can meet that deadline due to my conditions, lack of support and the barriers I face (difficulty writting, initiating tasks, attending appointments, requesting evidence, etc.).
What I actually need is more time to complete the MR itself and collate and send evidence (which i didnt manage to send with the initial application). DWP previously accepted a late MR (not for PIP) from me (about 8 months late) for the same reasons.
My question is:
1. Can i request from DWP to retract the MR Notice dated 28 March 2026, and allow me until around June 2026 to submit my MR under the 13-month rule?
2. Has anyone successfully done something similar, or knows the best way to phrase it so they actually consider it?
3. if i cant get DWP to retract their MR notice , can i get an extention from the tribunals. I believe they have a 13 month rule too. But i dont know much about it.
Any help or examples would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance ๐
