ESA was created by JenBiddy40
I have applied for PIP and UC LCWRA. I have had a PIP assessment but do not know the outcome just yet. UC no news re assessment yet. I have been on SSP for 18 weeks so I think I probably need to think about applying for ESA soon, just in case I am not better before the SSP ends. If I have already submitted my application to UC for the WCA, how does this affect my application for ESA, do I just phone up in the normal way or will I need to do the forms again please? Thank you for your help.

Hi JenBiddy40
Yes, for New Style ESA you just phone up in the normal way and your eligibility is checked against your National Insurance Contributions. You can only claim when the employer has told you that your SSP has stopped.

Hi David
Thank you for replying.
I have been told that I could apply 3 months before my SSP is due to end so that it is in place for then or as near to? Should I wait until it ends?
Thank you and kind wishes.

Hi JenBiddy40
Yes you are correct about the 3 months....here are the full details :-
"You cannot get New Style ESA if you’re getting Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) from an employer. You can apply for New Style ESA up to 3 months before your SSP ends."
