AA was created by Hughie
Hi again. I have just been provided with some really useful advice regarding Attendance Allowance from this forum and application dates, but now we have hit a further snag. I asked regarding when a firend who was 66 on April 23rd could apply for AA and it is May 23rd and not as I thought on April 23rd. However, I could do with some advice again. He has a repeat prescription, and has just managed to have his co codamol added to the repeat. Because he already takes certain meds that can interact with co codamol, he has had to ring and order the co codamol seperately each month and it can sometimes mean he has to have a chat with his GP and give bloods before they are given. Thankfully as mentioned, they have now been placed on repeat. The snag is that his other meds on the repeat list are all due around the same time apart from the co codamol and they are not due for a further 2 weeks. To try to alleviate this issue, I helped him compile a short letter asking the GP to give a "bridging" amount of co codamol so the next repeat order will have the meds more or less synchronised for dates. Now, I am led to believe GP's will not do this with co codamols as they are a controlled substance, although I honestly cannot see what is wrong with putting 28 on this prescription and then 56 thereafter. This now creates a further issue for his AA claim. When he finally gets his next batch of co codamol. will the other meds also be listed alongside them as repeat, or will he just have one item mentioned on the slip he gets back? I am probably saying this back to front, but he just needs a prescripotion list showing his meds as repeats and all of them on the slip. He also doesn't know how he will know when to gert the co codamol here on in. Does he have to go into the surgery when they are due, or will they be automatically generated bu the Pharmacy and him sent a text message? I am sorry for this, as it is not strictly a benefit query, but it is linked and I am certain other AA or PIP applicants come up against this. It is really stressful, as when he rings the Practice, he always seems to end up getting the one receptionist who can be extremely vocal and he just clicks his mobile off. I genuinely apologise if this is outside the remit for questions.

Hi Hughie

I know the matter of the medication is worrying you, but honestly, there is no need. If you look at the advice for how to fill out the Attendance Allowance form (AA1 notes), among the information a claimant needs to provide (page 3), it says "Details of your medication or an up-to-date printed prescription list if you have one." So there is no need to send in a printed prescription list - your friend or you, if you are helping him fill it out, can write out a list of medications with the dosage that he takes daily. That will be accepted, and then you don't have to worry about the current prescription list. www.gov.uk/government/publications/atten...allowance-claim-form. I've done this for people applying for AA and the DWP have never insisted on seeing the printed copy.
