A strange letter requesting ESA1 form was created by Arthritic Annie
Hi,

My partner has just received a letter from the Department of Communities, northern ireland. We live in northern ireland.

It reads;

In relation to your claim to Employment and Support Allowance.

We have received medical evidence for your claim but you have not submitted your ESA1 form in Northern Ireland via nidirect.gov.uk website.

For further information please contact 08001690310.

He is currently working full time for the same company gor about 15years, its a multinational HQ in the UK. He has always worked and thankfully has never had a need to claim any benefits. The national insurance number quoted is his and we checked all addresses etc and they are correct although the letter is riddled in typos.

Do you think this is a scam gone wrong? How could there be medical evidence when hes not sick and working full time? I would be very grateful if you could help with some questions for when he rings next week.

Thank you.

Hi Arthritic Annie

I would phone ESA in Northern Ireland as soon as possible. Here are the details
www.nidirect.gov.uk/contacts/employment-...ort-allowance-centre

If it turns out to be a scam you would need to get advice as soon as possible to stop further fraud. See below :-
If you have been the victim of identity theft or a scam, please report this to your financial services provider and Report Fraud. Report Fraud is the UK's national fraud and internet crime reporting centre. Please visit their website, or call them on 0300 123 2040.

If you need help or advice on scams you can get advice from the Citizens Advice consumer helpline by calling 0808 223 1133.
The service is open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. The helpline is closed on bank holidays. Calls are free from mobiles and landlines.

Let us know how you get on.
