Reg pip review and the giving consent for dwp to contact gp

Hi
I’m going through a slim form pip review
And all evidence has been gathered by myself to support my pip review and I’ve been told the evidence I have is good

Yet I’m not sure wether to tick yes to the tick box giving the dwp consent to contact my gp
And this is because my heath condition has remained the same no changes in it and my needs for over ten years
so because of this I’ve barely seen a gp at my local drs surgery in many years ( apart from two times where I saw a nurse in 2023 and 2026 and it’s stated my health condition remains the same )and due to barely seeing my gp i do not trust my gp to give the dwp an accurate info/picture to the dwp which would then have a negative impact on my pip review

Also others have said why don’t I state this on additional info in the pip review
That as my health condition hasn’t changed in many years I have barely seen the gp so the gp will not have any accurate information regarding how my health conditions etc affects me daily etc
Or if I state this on my pip review additional info would the dwp use this against me that the fact my gp has no accurate info that is relevant to how my health conditions etc affects me daily

Also I would like to know if the above has happened to others when they gave consent for dwp to contact their gp
And did they appeal this because GPs rarely know the granular details of how people’s health conditions etc affects their daily life as they haven’t seen their gp in many years as their health conditions has stayed the same no changes

Also others are saying if you don’t tick the consent for dwp to contact the gp then it can be seen as a red flag
Is this true

Also as I am seeing on social media especially face book there is a deep mistrust of disabled people and this is concerning as all disabled people are being seen as liars and fakers etc and the cause of the uk money troubles etc and many genuine disabled people myself included are worried and scared about being scapegoated and life’s hard enough with a disability without being put through more added stress and worry and anxiety having to prove your still disabled etc

Also others are saying that the dwp could refuse your pip review if the dwp need more evidence that you didn’t include in the evidence sent with your pip claim form

Yet does the dwp not contact you if they need more evidence and ask if you could get the evidence they need from your medical records etc or does the dwp just say there isn’t enough evidence they need and not allow your pip reveiw claim

Hi J

I'm not sure I can give you an answer that will satisfy you.

Should you give permission for the DWP to contact your GP? This is something you will have to decide for yourself. You already know some people think yes, and others think no. All I can tell you, is that, despite what people think, the percentage of GPs they contact is relatively small in comparison to the number of claimants.. (And no, I can't give you an exact figure).

Little contact with GP. Many PIP claimants with long-term disabilities have very little contact with their GPs. Can this be held against you? Some assessors note that a claimant may not have had recent contact, but many don't. It would be very easy in your case to argue that you have had contact with other medical professionals at your surgery.

Members' experiences - some members who have refused permission have later discovered the DWP has still been able to acquire information about their records.

Additional stress - You can find almost anything on social media, criticising the PIP systems and denigrating disabled people. My advice is to limit your exposure to social media. You can't change the opinions of keyboard warriors, and there is little point in you making yourself ill worrying about people who know nothing about you. There is also a lot of misinformation out there, so try to stick to good sources like Benefits & Work.

Additional information needed. It is untrue to say that if the DWP want additional information, they won't ever ask for it. Only last week one of our members had been contacted and told there wasn't enough information to support their claim, and they were asked to send in more., and given additional time to do so.

How much do you include on your form?: If you have the AR2 form, they are expecting that your condition is unchanged or perhaps worsened and they are looking for confirmation. They are not expecting to be provided with loads of pages of new evidence (unless someone has a new condition).

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems
