Hello, this is my first time on here. I hope the following makes some sense.
I am a self-employed hairstylist, and unfortunately, since 2024, I have reduced my days and hours of work because of having CFS .
I had originally put a claim into ESA as I have had a frozen shoulder, which I had corrective surgery for. As I have no experience with benefits, I assumed that I wouldn't get financial help with CFS as I'm not a severe case.
Long story short-ish, I have put the other conditions on the form, but I think they have concentrated on the frozen shoulder, as I said I would like to work again. The reason being I cannot afford not to. However, it is affecting my health, and I am suffering all the time with symptoms during work and PEM (post-exertional malaise).
I would like them to consider my CFS, I have a consultant diagnosis, and my GP knows, but he has filled out the ESA113 concentrating on the impact of the frozen shoulder and hasn't ticked the box for movement or anything linked to CFS.
I would like them to consider me for the support group, with the permitted working hours, as my condition is variable and I am unreliable. My capacity is progressively getting worse. No one would employ me!
I feel failed by the GP. What can I do from here? My first and only call from DWP was 08/04/26. I was assessed as WRAG I assume and was back paid to 15/12/25.
I also have new medication regarding mental health and a therapist letter too.
Who do I give this new evidence to? I feel they need to hear a clearer picture.

It would be beneficial for you to try and get in the ESA Support Group. Apart from the obvious increase in your ESA it would mean if you claimed UC in the future you would automatically receive the LCWRA element. You would get the LCWRA element at the old rate which is double the amount for new UC claimants. That is as long as your ESA claim hadn't been closed.
The DWP puts claimants into the Support Group not because of the severity of the medical condition but because they have scored the points relating to the WCA descriptors. For instance a claimant who has been in hospital intensive care may fail to get into the Support Group while another claimant may, even though they have not been treated in hospital at all.
You should read our guide below on how the points are generated at the WCA.

If you have the Airmid App you can see your medical record and book a GP appointment.
Once you have used our guide and written down how you meet the descriptors so as to get in the Support Group you could get an appointment with a different GP and ask the GP for a letter confirming what you have written.
To start the ball rolling you must ask the DWP for a Mandatory Reconsideration of the WCA assessment that didn't put you in the Support Group. Here is the form:-
